Jij bent een BB'er
Ja, niet meteen gaan juichen crackberry gebruikers. Deze jongen ga je niet gauw met een BlackBerry zien rond lopen. Nee, deze BB staat voor 'Bekende Beveiliger'. Je weet wel eentje die je uit duizenden herkend. En waar bijna iedereen er wel eens eentje heeft gezien of over gehoord heeft net als bij BN'er.
De laatste tijd merk ik steeds vaker op dat ik herkend wordt. En dat is te danken aan mijn afro want het is en blijft iets dat je niet vaak ziet. De reacties hierop variëren van complimenten tot dom lachen en grappen erover maken (hierover in een ander stuk). Een paar jaar geleden had ik ook een afro maar toen werd ik niet zo vaak herkend. Maar als ik nu alle momenten bij mekaar schraap ben ik toch een bekende als ik er over nadenk. Om even een paar op te noemen.
Als ik het mij goed herinner was de eerste keer dat iemand mij echte herkende een kort jaar nadat ik mijn eerste afro had afgeschoren. Er kwam een man bij mij langs en zei:"Mag ik wat vragen? Had u niet eerst een afro? Ja, zie je wel, jij bent het toch. Ik kon mij jou met afro herinneren, maar dit staat je ook wel". Ik was millimeter plat geschoren. Ik moest hier wel om lachen.
Recentelijk kwam het toch steeds vaker voor. Een man die mij een paar dagen voordat hij met zijn zoon ging vliegen al had gezien op Schiphol. Grond personeel dat mij eens heeft zien langs glippen en daarna op feesten komen zeggen dat zij mij kennen. Sta je daar met een bek vol tanden. Ook kreeg ik er een te horen via een collega. Een vriend van haar die een paar jaar geleden had gevlogen kon nog herinneren dat hij door mij was gecontroleerd. Het feit dat hij mijn controle nog eerder kon herinneren dan mijn afro leidde al snel tot de vraag:"Is hij een Josje?". Het antwoord mag je zelf verzinnen.
Maar het blijft niet alleen bij Nederlanders, van een kennis uit Kopenhagen hoorde ik dat vrienden van haar mij(n) (haar) hadden gezien. Zij kende mij alleen met een kort geschoren kop maar had foto's gezien waar ik met afro stond, dus ik werd daar ook al over 'geïnterviewd'.
En natuurlijk kunnen de 'Take a picture' momenten niet wegblijven. Oostblokkers die zogenaamd smooth een foto probeerde te maken met mij op de achtergrond. En terwijl ik wegliep gewoon meedraaien alsof zij aan het poseren zijn. De Japanners die waren weer een stuk vriendelijker en vroegen aan mij of zij een foto mochten nemen. Daar had ik geen probleem mee gezien ze dat zo vriendelijk vroegen. Waar ik eerst met een stond, volgden al snel drie anderen die in een rijtje gingen staan, om zo een voor een ook met mij op de foto te mogen, gevolgd door een groepsfoto. En dan had je nog de Suid- Afrikaners. Er werd eerst nog een poging gedaan om mij te paaien alvorens er werd gevraagd om een foto te nemen. De actie vond ik schattig dat ik het toe liet, mits de dames ook erop stonden.
Nu is de vraag wanneer is de stap naar het volgende niveau, de Bekende Amsterdammer. Only time will tell.

Airport Security Travel tips
With more and more people having the ability to book a plane ticket, it generates more customers for both the airlines and the duty free shops. And now more than before security has been put on high alert due to constant threats.
I'm going to write a few things that might be useful for when you go flying. This is not a complete list of tips and hints or how to slip past long queues. Also remember not all airports do things the same despite claims.
One of the things people hate most is waiting. Waiting for an order, waiting in line, waiting for the weekend and waiting for the next pay check to come in. When you get to an airport you have to wait at least at two places. The check-in desk/baggage drop-off and the security check. Depending on where you're flying from and to a passport/immigration control.
Look around don't follow other people blindly. How often have you stood in a queue and discovered there are more desks available. Keep your eyes open.
Remember you're going flying n to a party so KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). Don't wear any fancy jewelry, high heels or get dressed up too much. You still have to sit in an airplane seat before you reach your actual destination. Yes, you might encounter Mr/Mrs Right while you're at the airport but does that actually matter if that person should like you for you? Regarding the jewelry, too many people forget or lose these. Just keep them safe in your bag.
When getting close to the security check, place you belonging in your bag. The less you need to take out of your pockets when at the x-ray machine, the quicker you can go through. Pay attention to what the person in front of you is doing and listen as well. Just because he took his shoes off doesn't mean you have too as well.
Any items you have with you in your bag that deviate from regular things (phones, coins, clothing, books, liquids & gels) tell it to the security so they are aware. This way when it goes through the machine they won't act surprised.
Watch your liquids & gels. Each airport handles this differently despite there being said they all follow the same rules. Make sure you don't bring any bottles of water or juices. Empty bottles are ok. Look at the size of your other liquids. Don't bring anything where the packaging is larger than 100ml. Even if it only has a little bit in it. "It's for both of us" doesn't work either. Make sure you put them in a plastic see through bag which is seal-able. When bringing along baby food make sure it's already pre-made or is specifically indicated to being baby food (less than 12 months on the package). Unprepared is also ok but you will have to get water from one of the restaurants or bars inside. Kids’ juices are not ok. So don't bring those along to prevent disappointment of it being thrown away. Like I said earlier not all airports work with the same rules so go out from the strictest one. Anything less is luck for you.
Don't bring any electronics with you unless you actually need them on the flight or they are sensitive/expensive. Less makes a lighter bag but also one easier to check for security. External computer hard drives can also be taken out if you have more than two. When removing the laptop open it a bit. Don't throw everything in one tray. Keep the electronics separate.
Walk through the metal detection gate only after you've seen all your bags go on the belt or into the machine. Don't simply walk away and expect it to be done.
Keep your passport in one of the pockets of your pants. You'll have it close with you and if needed, can be shown after you've walked through the metal detection. Walk normal through the metal detection. Acting silly and thinking its fun only makes you look stupid towards the security or even raise the suspicion you have something to hide. Don't say stupid things like, I have a bomb or a gun. Ever been labeled a flight risk (add being black listed and a fined for delaying a flight), it's no fun.
There are more people traveling except you. Try to look for a place to move your stuff with the tray after they've gone through x-ray instead of hogging the exit of the belt so nobody else can get to their stuff. After collecting your stuff, check the tray to make sure you didn't leave something in it. And count if you have all your bags. These are the moments people forget things the most like belts and phones that had to go through the x-ray again.
